THE JOHN BOSCO ODONGO HEALTH FOUNDATION

Is a registered not-for-profit or charity organisation and was established in 2014 but was registered in Australia in June 2015. The idea of establishing the organisation came about during a meeting with the community leadersof the remote communities. There majority of communities in Kole district do not have access to conventional health services and do depend on traditional and cultural means of health interventions which have caused many preventable illnesses and diseases to result in the deaths of the victims.

In a meeting I held with the regional community leaders at Aboke during my visit to the area in 2013 and 2014 health problems was identified as a serious problem facing the communities and it was chosen as a priority need. Furthermore it was unimously agreed that a health promotion campaign should be initiated in the region as a afirst step in health intervention in order to inform and raise awareness about preventive measures that could be undertaken by the community people themselves. The communithy leaders also suggested that a community health center be cosntructed in their region to prevent unnecessary sickness and deaths of their people. The members at the meeting proposed some of the actions that need to be undertaken in collaboration with the community leaders and they include the clearing of grass and rubbish around houses and homesteads, the construction of pit latrines at every homestead, the training of people to boil and filter water meant for drinking, healthy lifestyle, the use of mosquito nets, the practice of personal hygiene and house cleanliness and the monitoring of sicknesses and providing support to the sick people by community members.

Meanwhile due to the urgency of a health facility in the area the Board of The John Bosco Odongo Health Foundation suggested that a clinic should be constructed as soon as some funds become available so as to meet the urgent need of the population. The implementation of this idea will depend on how soon the funds will become available and so we would like to request our supporters to donate generously towards this cause. The organisation will opearte in accordance of our values and will keep our esteem donors informed with any development through our websites or your electronic mails, if we have them in our system. Please do make your donations according to the information provided here:
